In accordance with United States government visa regulations, all incoming J-visa holders must demonstrate proof of English language fluency. This includes your J-visa program. Documentation of English language fluency must be provided to the university before your J-visa can be issued. Review the Department of State J-visa regulations here.
J-Check, featuring the iTEP Academic Plus exam, is an approved testing option at many schools for incoming J-visa applicants. There are many reasons for you to use J-Check as part of your J-visa application.
- J-Check is a comprehensive English proficiency exam that includes grammar, listening, reading, writing, and speaking. This meets the US government requirement that a J-Scholar must demonstrate s/he possesses sufficient proficiency in the English language, as determined by an objective measurement of English language proficiency.
- J-Check may be used at a date and time of your choosing.
- J-Check may be used in the privacy of a scholar’s home/office rather than a testing center.
- J-Check uses iTEP’s Fotosure security software providing secure testing.
- J-Check registration includes a complimentary practice exam scholars can take to prepare for the official exam.
- J-Check provides a comprehensive grade report in 24–48 hours.
- J-Check test results will be sent directly to the host university to be included as documentation of English fluency in the J-visa scholar applicant’s file.
